On Tuesday at BBVA Stadium in Houston, Texas (USA), our Grenadières in Group A faced the Americans, the reigning world champions, for the first group match in the final phase of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualifiers.
From the outset, the Americans were aggressive, opening the scoring for the United States with a goal from Christian Press in the 2' of game [1-0]. Our courageous Grenadières withstood the offensive power of the world champions during the first period, which ended with an unchanged score [0-1]
Returning from the lockers, the Americans went into top gear, despite their heroism our Grenadière could not prevent Lynn Williams to register in 67' a second goal for the USA [2-0], a few minutes later Lindsey Horan in 73' broke the score [3-1] and finally Carli Lloyd in overtime at 90 + 3' scored a 4th goal against our Grenadières [4-0].
A bad start in this final eliminatory phase which should not prevent our girls from concentrating on their next meeting against Costa Rica which will be played on January 31st.
